Majors and Minors
The world needs smart artists. In the Department of Theatre, our mission is to produce well-rounded theatre practitioners committed to excellence, both artistically and academically. We believe that starts with foundational instruction on all aspects of theatre that streamline into more specific and focused inquiry each year. We also consider our departmental productions part of the educational experience. Explore your many options with the information provided in this section.

B.F.A. in Theatre with Track Emphasis
This pre-professional degree allows the dedicated theatre student an opportunity to take classes geared toward a specific interest in theatre. This degree is appropriate for those who upon graduation wish to go directly into the professional theatre world. It is also designed for those who wish to go to graduate school for an M.F.A. We will officially have the newly refurbished BFA in Design Production beginning fall 2018!
Please note that as of fall 2017, all BFA students will be reviewed by the faculty at the end of their first semester and again at the end of their third semester. Students who do not meet the standards of academic rigor and talent development will be moved to a different BFA track or to the BA program. All BFA students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to remain in the program.
B.A. in Theatre or Theatre Teaching
The general theatre degree plan is an excellent choice for students who love theatre but also have other interests. Students wishing to double-major in theatre and some other field should also pursue the general theatre degree. Teaching is a noble career, and Lipscomb is known for producing excellent teachers. Students interested in teaching at the elementary, junior high, or high school level should choose the theatre teaching major.
